When we asked when the wedding was they looked at each other and smiled……”3 weeks!” Oh man… We talked and talked, came up with flowers and a beautiful color scheme. Talk about elegance! Green Wedding Flower Ideas: Ornamental Kale

Posted by on Jul 25, 2014 in Milwaukee Flowers, Weddings and Events, Welkes Blog | 0 comments

Let’s talk about a unique wedding “flower” idea that’s great for green, rustic or garden-style weddings: ornamental kale!

I know what you’re thinking. Kale? That healthy stuff I’m supposed to eat if I want to live to 100? Yep! It turns out kale is more than just healthy — it’s a beautiful addition to a bouquet. Below are a few examples of different varieties — the rich color and eye-catching texture make ornamental kale a versatile, unique “flower” choice. (Doesn’t the kale in the middle photo look like a rose?)

So, if you’re looking for green wedding flower ideas, konsider kale! The best part is, you can repurpose the leafy greens for the salad course at your reception! (j/k, this kale is just for looks!)

What do you think about kale in wedding flowers?

Stefani & Michael’s Wedding Flowers — Milwaukee Wedding Flowers

We had the pleasure of doing Stefani & Michael’s wedding flowers a few weeks ago and wanted to share some pictures with all of you!

Stefani & Michael got married at a church in Hubertus and held their reception at the Hilton Garden Inn in Milwaukee (Park Place). Their wedding flowers were a beautiful combination of vintage and modern elements with a bit of rustic appeal (thanks to burlap wrap and mason jars). Don’t you love the contrast of bright and neutral colors? (Pink, orange/red, and turquoise hues stand out against the white and natural burlap shades.) Below the pictures is a list of the featured flowers (in photo order):

Courthouse Wedding Flowers

Posted by on Jul 9, 2014 in Milwaukee Flowers, Weddings and Events, Welkes Blog | 0 comments

One of the best things about doing wedding flowers is that each wedding is unique — no two weddings are exactly the same! And that’s great for us as florists, since it keeps us on our toes. We love helping engaged couples prepare for their big day. Once in a while, as in this instance a few weeks back, we’re asked to make speedy flower requests for courthouse weddings. No problem!

Here’s what we did for the most recent courthouse wedding flower order: a bridal bouquet and a boutonniere for the groom created with flowers we had in stock. The hand-tied bridal bouquet featured yellow roses, white spray roses and white stock flowers with greens. The boutonniere consisted of a yellow rose accented with ivy. Here are some pictures:

Kudos to our designer, who created this a half hour after the order was placed! So, if you need fast wedding flowers in the metro Milwaukee area, Welke’s is here for you!

Posted by on Jul 2, 2014 in Floral Trends, Weddings and Events, Welkes Blog | 0 comments

On this week’s Wedding Wednesday, we’re highlighting a 2014 wedding trend: choreographed dance routines!

Thanks to Youtube, we’ve been able to participate in the memorable moments of weddings worldwide in recent years. Here’s a video from a wedding last week that’s gone viral on Youtube.

The video features Sean Rajaee and his groomsmen, who performed a surprise choreographed dance routine for his bride (Ariana) at their reception. Songs in the routine include Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love,” Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way,” Barobax’s “Soosan Khanoom” and Bruno Mars’ “Marry You.”

What do you think about this trend–fun or over-the-top? Have you done something similar? Tell us about it!

And there’s a legal bar this time! Show off your chic style, or find something frilly at a thrift shop. This time it’s all about YOU. All of the fund s raised will go towards baseball equipment for the new Sherman Park Baseball Diamond. Emily & Jon’s Wedding Flowers — Milwaukee

Posted by on May 21, 2014 in Milwaukee Flowers, Weddings and Events, Welkes Blog | 0 comments

It’s another edition of Wedding Wednesday! This week, we’re featuring Emily and Jon’s wedding flowers. This beautiful couple got married on a cool spring afternoon (Friday, April 25th) at Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro on Milwaukee’s lakefront. Here’s a shot of their ceremony overlooking Lake Michigan.

Lake Park Bistro is one of Milwaukee’s premier restaurants and wedding venues. Nestled in Milwaukee’s historic Lake Park (designed by Frederick Law Olmsted) at the top of a hill, the restaurant features a dramatic staircase that gracefully cascades down to the Milwaukee lakefront. It’s not hard to see why this beautiful spot is such a coveted wedding location! Here’s a shot of Emily and her bridesmaids:

Emily and her bridesmaids’ coordinating floral bouquets featured cream and light pink roses and dusty miller, for a soft, feminine look. A dreamy flower combination, isn’t it?

The couple’s two daughters also had coordinating mini bouquets. It doesn’t get much cuter than these two!
